Prompt Lists now open
Apr. 6th, 2008 10:38 pmJust in case anyone isn't aware, the prompt lists are now open for claiming.
Please be patient about having your claims marked down; the usual rules (first post, first serve) apply, and I will get back to you as soon as I can!

Date: 2008-04-06 11:06 pm (UTC)1. Making sure everyone who put up a prompt gets a decent chance of their prompt getting claimed (which links in with 2.)
2. Reducing the chances of popularity contests where someone goes around pestering everyone to write a version of their prompt/ignoring prompts of people who-are-not-them. Same with the actual stories - it reduces the chances of people getting less feedback on their fics because of people replying to a BNF's post for the prompt they took.
3. Encourages variety, more than anything else; two fics and two fanarts per prompt seems a reasonable limit. Maybe expanding it to three or four by the next round would be reasonable, but not to a large number and certainly not limitless.
I completely understand your point and why it's a frustration, but basically, we want Springkink to remain a low-pressure, variety-filled community where everyone's participating for fun and in the spirit of sharing rather than to play in popularity contests :). Keeping the friendly spirit going is the main priority and I do feel having the limits helps out in this case.

Date: 2008-04-07 04:47 am (UTC)So I offer this suggestion as a compromise. One shouldn't be allowed to claim more then 10 prompts per 6-7 day periods, so that those of us who space our prompt claiming out over the whole month and still have 13-20 prompts we've picked can still get our hands in as opposed to only being able to claim maybe the first week and a half of stuff and getting angry or unhappy because we didn't get several others we wanted because of popularity.

Date: 2008-04-07 04:36 pm (UTC)I love your work, and moreover, I love that you a) write in a zillion different fandoms, and b) finish your prompts!
I'm going to have a word with animadri about the number of claims per prompt/fandom/person issue and see what works out best from a logical point of view, because I can completely see why some people got ticked off, but I don't want anyone to feel guilty for taking lots of prompts either.

Date: 2008-04-07 08:34 pm (UTC)I like the limit idea, hard cap for the first week (5-10 prompts) and free for all after that.
When I decided what prompts I wanted to use, I made sure to space them out (as a matter of fact, I didn't even look at some days). I even even wrote a little four liner for each story I wanted to see whether I could get a grip on the story or whether it was only a cool prompt, but not really inspiring (yep, one prompt got changed for another because I couldn't get a handle on the story).
Writing six fics is very ambitious of me, I'm a very slow writer (especially since all the best ideas always come when I can't write and the stories usually tend to change with every other mood I'm in).
There are a few more prompts I'd like to try my hand on, but only if I'm finished with the current ones.

Date: 2008-04-07 08:44 pm (UTC)I hope I didn't seem too monopolizing with my claims? I have a looot of free time in the next few months, so I claimed about 17-ish, and I think all but one were for Kingdom Hearts. I'm honestly not familiar with most of the fandoms posted as prompts, though, and I'd hate to write someone's prompt if I couldn't do it to the best of my ability.

Date: 2008-04-11 12:25 am (UTC)I think a blanket 'only 15 fic grabs in the first 24 hours' idea is probably perfect for the big fandoms, but I think it would really impact negatively on the the smaller fandoms, which are often only picked up as side grabs. If the restriction is fandom related (only 15 fic grabs per fandom in the first 24 hours) then that wouldn't be anywhere near as destructive for the smaller fandoms.
Of course, it seems as though this problem is fairly specific to the Transformers fandom, so maybe a 'please play nice' post is all that's really needed.

Date: 2008-04-11 05:35 am (UTC)I took the prompts because I like them, and know that I can write them. I didn't have a variety of fandoms because I didn't think I could really write for any of the others, and that my Transformers fanfics are better than anything I would do for other fandoms.
I didn't mean to upset anyone. I'm also sorry for not looking at this post sooner and seeing the comments. I've been very busy, and didn't really think to look.
For the next round, I'll try not to claim so many, or I'll at least have some variety between art and fic, too. I know that there isn't always much art done, but I just haven't had the time to draw anything recently, and know that I won't anytime soon.
For me, it's easier, and faster, getting the words out than it is to draw, so I didn't even think when I was claiming.
Once again, I didn't mean to upset anyone
