Just in case anyone isn't aware, the prompt lists are now open for claiming.

Please be patient about having your claims marked down; the usual rules (first post, first serve) apply, and I will get back to you as soon as I can!

I have a question: why are there claim limits on how many times a claim can be taken? It would make sense if people were only allowed a certain number of claims, but as it is, it seems a little unfair that two people could claim a massive chunk of the prompts and then block out everyone else...?

I realize now that this comment sounds a little bitchy ^^; I'm not trying to be annoying, just a little disappointed because I have friends who are at work and such who might not get to claim prompts for their fandoms.

Must limit myself, or else face CERTAIN DOOM!

Hmmm, I'm kind of divided on the limitations thing. Personally, I think that claiming 10-15 prompts for the month isn't unreasonable, if you already have gone through and picked the ones that you know you can do or have an idea for as opposed to just claiming everything in your fandom. Also, the fandoms I usually claim for (Digital Devil Saga, Nocturne, DMC, KH, and some FFXII) are fairly popular, and even claiming only a few per week for me requires that I be fast and post what I want all at once instead of posting only a few. I will also point out that I am no where near popular even in the fandoms I post for, so I don't expect many reviews anyway.

So I offer this suggestion as a compromise. One shouldn't be allowed to claim more then 10 prompts per 6-7 day periods, so that those of us who space our prompt claiming out over the whole month and still have 13-20 prompts we've picked can still get our hands in as opposed to only being able to claim maybe the first week and a half of stuff and getting angry or unhappy because we didn't get several others we wanted because of popularity.

I agree that 10-15 is not unreasonable, especially in large fandoms, but the issue here is with someone claiming more like 40-50 prompts within five minutes, thus limiting the vast majority of the fandom's claims to one only, and freezing out anyone who wasn't at their computer at the time.

I can only speak for myself, but please don't feel guilty if you've claimed a bunch of prompts. I think we're all agreed that grabbing a handful because they're zomg so cool is fine. :)

Well, I am sort of feeling that since I always (so far) fill my prompts, it's not as if I sit on them and don't do anything with them.

Please don't feel guilty! Yes, you took more prompts than many people, but you spread it out over a bunch of fandoms and really it was only the one person who also has a bit of a reputation for being late/not doing them at all, and 'sides, you're awesome and didn't take really all that much!
(And I've been sekritly fangirling you for a while. I know of what I speak. *g*)

I think the fact that you always fulfill your prompts makes a huge difference. There's nothing more frustrating than missing out on a claim and then seeing that the person who got it never finished.

Plus, like [livejournal.com profile] lady_ganesh said, you write in a lot of fandoms, so it's not like you're monopolizing any one.

Than there's also the matter of story length, at least form me. I prefer to read one 1000 words story, instead of ten 100 words stories (I know the com rules allow it, but still) and even better are ten stories with at least 1000 words (ideally by different authors to get to see what others think, after awhile one gets to know the style of an author and the stories get a bit predictable and uninteresting as a result). And fewer fics per author are more conducive to longer fics, in my opinion.

I like the limit idea, hard cap for the first week (5-10 prompts) and free for all after that.

When I decided what prompts I wanted to use, I made sure to space them out (as a matter of fact, I didn't even look at some days). I even even wrote a little four liner for each story I wanted to see whether I could get a grip on the story or whether it was only a cool prompt, but not really inspiring (yep, one prompt got changed for another because I couldn't get a handle on the story).
Writing six fics is very ambitious of me, I'm a very slow writer (especially since all the best ideas always come when I can't write and the stories usually tend to change with every other mood I'm in).
There are a few more prompts I'd like to try my hand on, but only if I'm finished with the current ones.

This is the first time I'm actually writing for springkink, after reading for the last round, so I might just be talking out of my ear here but: I think that if at all possible, upping the fic limit to 3 for this round would help to smooth things over, and then maybe think about implenting other changes (only claiming X amount of prompts within 24/48 hours) for the next round.

I hope I didn't seem too monopolizing with my claims? I have a looot of free time in the next few months, so I claimed about 17-ish, and I think all but one were for Kingdom Hearts. I'm honestly not familiar with most of the fandoms posted as prompts, though, and I'd hate to write someone's prompt if I couldn't do it to the best of my ability.

From: [identity profile] n-finitefangirl.livejournal.com
Upping it to three per type per prompt might be a good way to ease the transition--at least, if we're planning to change the limitations on prompt claims. At the very least, it would be a little more fair.

Just chiming in as well ^_^

I think a blanket 'only 15 fic grabs in the first 24 hours' idea is probably perfect for the big fandoms, but I think it would really impact negatively on the the smaller fandoms, which are often only picked up as side grabs. If the restriction is fandom related (only 15 fic grabs per fandom in the first 24 hours) then that wouldn't be anywhere near as destructive for the smaller fandoms.

Of course, it seems as though this problem is fairly specific to the Transformers fandom, so maybe a 'please play nice' post is all that's really needed.

I just wanted to comment and say that, for those who are not happy with how many prompts I took, I'm sorry. I didn't know that some of the prompts would be so popular and have so many other people after them.

I took the prompts because I like them, and know that I can write them. I didn't have a variety of fandoms because I didn't think I could really write for any of the others, and that my Transformers fanfics are better than anything I would do for other fandoms.

I didn't mean to upset anyone. I'm also sorry for not looking at this post sooner and seeing the comments. I've been very busy, and didn't really think to look.

For the next round, I'll try not to claim so many, or I'll at least have some variety between art and fic, too. I know that there isn't always much art done, but I just haven't had the time to draw anything recently, and know that I won't anytime soon.

For me, it's easier, and faster, getting the words out than it is to draw, so I didn't even think when I was claiming.

Once again, I didn't mean to upset anyone
