Prompt: June 16th: Yu Yu Hakusho, Hiei/Kurama: stifling UST, pheromones - "You could almost wring it out of the air."
Notes: Written as a companion fic to [livejournal.com profile] macavitykitsune's "As Eternity Flows By". It was an honour to collaborate with her.

So much time had passed since their last meeting, yet here they were and nothing had changed. He supposed he should have expected it; some things got into the blood and simply refused to be exorcised. From a time long before they ever set eyes on each other, Youko Kurama had run deep in Hiei’s veins.

All eyes, including his, had turned to the door when Kurama walked in. After a short appraising glance around the room, the fathomless green eyes met Hiei’s and held. The low murmur of voices fell to a silence that grew breathless as the room was engulfed by the charged atmosphere between the two. The stories of the various alliances and betrayals that lay behind Hiei and Kurama were well known; their last parting had been to opposing sides in a centuries-old war. What other threads were woven into the tapestry of their history, no one could say.

Hiei fought to keep his expression blank, though Kurama’s gaze was like a physical weight pulling against his resolve. Kurama’s expression did not change, but there came a softened glint into his eyes that Hiei knew well. A shock raced from the center of his chest to the edges of his compact frame, nearly breaking his façade as he recalled past moments spent lost in that look. Barely hanging on, Hiei managed to stifle this reaction and keep his gaze steady. This was not for the prying eyes of others, and he would be damned if he would allow anyone to intrude.

Still the moment stretched, to the end of time and back again, it seemed. Memories of times supposedly long lost flooded Hiei’s mind and his breath caught short in his throat. The red fringe of Kurama’s bangs hung low to offset pale skin; Hiei remembered the way it had looked spread wide across pillows or damp with sweat, the way it had felt between his fingers, or falling from bare shoulders to feather across his skin. Never before or since had he been touched by anything so delicately intoxicating.

It was all Hiei could do not to squirm as his sex reacted to these images, pressing with increasing insistency against his clothing. The pale skin of Kurama’s cheeks gave no hint of what passed now between them, but blushing had never been his way, his color rising only in the heat of battle or passion. His control was maddening to Hiei, making him want to crush it, to lay Kurama out before him and force the flowers of desire to bloom across his flesh. Every nerve in Hiei’s body tingled, the pressure in his groin becoming a heated, demanding ache in the wake of his thoughts.

With iron will, he managed to suppress himself, refusing to be mastered by anything so simple as a mere glance. Gritting his teeth, he held Kurama’s gaze, and waited.

A spark of something mischievous flared briefly in deep green eyes, then disappeared in an instant. Kurama arched an elegant brow. The challenge, indecipherable to others, was crystal clear to Hiei. He repressed, to the best of his ability, the delicious shiver that ran over his skin, and answered with a cryptic smirk.

The assembled company released their collective breath as the moment appeared to pass. Kurama slid his gaze away, settling on Yusuke with a smile. He moved that way while the buzz of conversation returned, louder now as if to erase the previous pause. Somewhere across the room, Chuu`s obnoxious, braying laughter sounded. In a few minutes the incident would be entirely forgotten, just a momentary tension that lead, to all appearances, to nothing.

Hiei turned back to the window and settled in to savour the anticipation.

c&c are always appreciated ♥~

That was really nice. I don't know the fandom (clicked on a whim) so I'm merely admiring the writing. Nice rhythms, great tension - which peaks, dips and finishes with a promising upswing. The bond you paint between the two characters is very strong, very compelling. A good read!

Oh, yum, <3 It's been so long since i've read this pairing, even though it was my first taste of yaoi years ago <3 Oh, nostalgia.

Ha, Kurama, you're the only one who can pull Hiei's iron composure apart. Good characterization <3

[livejournal.com profile] macavitykitsune linked me to this and I'm speechless. I don't know how you manage to make a siomple glance so full, well-characterized, and downright hot, but you've got some serious talent there. You just did Hiei and Kurama so much justice. I must link this to some of my other H/K fanfriends.

And you have other fics with them? May I ask for links?

I do remember seeing Thief over at ff.net, but did not get a chance to review before it got lost in the slew of badfic over there shuffle. You have a great voice for them, I hope you write more.

A-a-and you have Loveless fic? *rubs on your ff.net profile*

Yes, Hiei and Kurama and their UST. It's practically evident in the show. I mean, Hiei likes people about 10,000 feet out of his space bubble yet he's practically sitting on top of Kurama in every scene. Thank you fanservice!

A'mael, meet Blue. Blue, A'mael. You share a love for pretty boys, yaoi and d/s. You will probably get along swimmingly together. ^_^

Hiei and Kurama - here's a one-sentence fic for them on the theme of lies:

Hiei only lied to people he cared about, and Kurama preferred not to speak rather than do so; and so it was that over the years, Hiei could be sure Kurama would never trust a thing he said, and Kurama never said anything.

This refuses to go into fic. Here you go, have some fun. ^_^
