Springkink FAQ: Claiming

Who can participate?
Anyone age 18 or over who is a member of the Springkink community.


How does it work?
When claiming opens, simply comment with the claims you'd like to make on the appropriate post - e.g. if there is a prompt you'd like to claim due November 23rd, comment on the post November 21st to November 25th.


When can I claim a prompt?
From the opening of the prompt lists for claiming to the end of the day the prompt is due.


What are the rules for making a claim?
Simply copy and paste the prompt you'd like to claim into a comment as explained above, and note if you would like to be making a fic claim, an art claim, and if you're collaborating with someone else, the username of your collaborator.


How many times can a prompt be claimed?
A prompt may be claimed up to six times in total - three fics, three art. No more than three claims of either type can be made and I will comment to let you know if your claim has been rejected. First come, first served, and edited comments do not get first come first served for additional claims - if you make one set of claims and would like to claim more, comment again separately. It's only fair that those with non-paid accounts shouldn't be disadvantaged by the queueing system.


How many words am I expected to write for a fic claim?
The minimum is 100 and there is no max.


When can I start writing/drawing?
As soon as you've received a comment from me telling you if your claim has been noted. Again - if it has been rejected, I will tell you immediately. There may be some delay between your posting a claim and my noting it due to my work hours, but I will attempt to respond to any claim within three days.


What happens if I default or am early/late posting?
Nothing. springkink was originally set up as a low stress break from yaoi_challenge and the central concepts have stayed steady; the main idea is to have fun, enjoy prompting whether you're a writer or not, enjoy fulfilling prompts whether you're an epic-writer or short-story-writer or an artist, and to basically just relax. However, if you are early or late with a prompt, you may want to include a little apology in the author/artist's notes for your prompter.


One of my prompts is duplicated/missing/needs altering/I want to withdraw, what do I do?
Simply send me a private message over Livejournal with details of the comment and what you wish to have done to it, and I'll make the adjustment for you.

Ideally post on the day but as the community was set up to be low stress we do understand there may be some occasions where people can only post a couple of days before or after the prompt is due. You won't be penalised for an early or late submission; just be aware that your prompter will likely appreciate the gift all the more if it is presented on time so they know to look for it :).

And don't worry about questions! It's like in school; if one person asks, everyone else breathes a sigh of relief now that they've got the answer they didn't think to or dare to ask for!

Yep, posting is members only at the moment; joining the comm is moderated but as long as your age is visible somewhere in your profile or easy to find on your LJ you'll be allowed in :).

I jumped the gun a bit and made three claims, although I'm not a member of the community yet. I've since applied for membership, given that it's not an open community, and I made my age public on my profile.

Hi, I'm new here too, but I've also made three prompt claims, and I asked to join the community maybe more than a week ago. What happens if posting time comes and we aren't members yet?

Oh, don't worry :), come posting time a lot more energy will be getting spent on maintaining memberships - it's just that until the week before posting starts, as membership isn't a requirement for making a claim, just for posting to the community, it isn't as major a concern as ensuring the claims lists are up to date. Sorry for any inconvenience in the meantime hon, and I've sorted this week's set of applications now.

I'm claiming with my main journal (this one), but I usually post with my fic journal (anselajonlafic). Is that allowed?

Normally we ask that you claim with the journal you'll be posting with - however, as it's the first time you've asked about this, on this round I'll do the manual work of listing the claims under your fic journal (save you reposting the claims) - just making the request that for future rounds you claim under anselajonlafic :).

Is there a limit to how many posts you can claim?
And can you only claim one prompt for any given day?

You can claim as many prompts as you feel you are capable of; if there are three prompts on one day that you think you could write/draw on time, feel free to claim all three. Currently there are no restrictions based on the fandom/date due of prompts, only on the number of claims per prompt (i.e. if three other people have already claimed a prompt for fic, you cannot write fic for that prompt).

That is correct at this moment in time :). We advise you claim before you fill, as you're always free to drop a claim at a later date if you want without penalty.

Does that mean now that SHE has to write this fanfiction or that another member can comment her post and say that they will have this fanfiction finished on the 22nd?

Ahh, we're not doing claims yet :). What happens is people comment on that post with pairing and prompts, then in a few days a list of all the prompts will be made.

When THAT list is made, people comment saying what fanfics THEY want to write from the list :).

I posted a late claim for a prompt because I'd forgotten to put it on my initial list, but I'm not listed as claiming it. I didn't want to post it yesterday (it was for the 12th) because I wasn't down as claiming it, but no one else has claimed it at this point. Am I okay to post for it anyway? (The prompt is Feb 12: Kingdom Hearts, Braig/Aqua: noncon, sexual extortion – “Stay with me, bubbles, and your little friend gets to keep what brains he’s got.”) ETA: Claim was here (http://community.livejournal.com/springkink/1282123.html?thread=12752459#t12752459).
