Eight Days to Go!

I. Hello there! Just a friendly reminder: The party begins in eight days! July 1st contributors, are you ready? *G*

II. Posting instructions can be found here. Please follow them!

III. Let's talk characters or pairings or foursomes and moresomes or whatever or whoever you're currently digging. Let's talk OTCs, OTPs and OT3s. Let's talk about the characters you love, the ones you love to hate and the ones you hate to love. What's the appeal? What is it about them in particular that inspires you to put pen to paper or fingers to keys? Talk to me!

pst, you mean July 1st instead of April 1st, right?

And uh...let's just say that it's good that I'm not slated to start until the middle of the month! ahahhaaha. ha. ._.

Ooh, this sounds fun. The people I claimed and why:

Suikoden III -- Yuber and Albert. Issues of power, issues of strength and contractual obligations and control. Albert may be nominally dictating the terms of their relationhip--but he's a mortal maggot just like everyone else, to Yuber. And the prompt in question for this--let the buyer beware--was just BAIT for me to take it.

FFXII -- Ashe and Basch. No matter how many fics I write about these two, I still don't 'ship them. With Ashe and Basch it's never about them as a pair; they always come to bed the table as individuals, for their own reasons. His mental and emotional fetters to her aside, and whatever attraction for him she may or may not have, this isn't a pairing. It's a Queen and her Knight and how much she will give him, how far she can push him, and who else they remember along the way.

FFXII -- Gabranth and Drace. Their moment in the game is the single most intimate... and the most in tune with the game's message that whatever personal relationships a man has matter nothing in the face of war.

Gankutsuou -- Franz and Albert. Canon since Dumas. ::giggle:: Also, fascinating, how much Franz craves and how little Albert sees.

Vagrant Story -- Ashley and Sydney. The latter pried the former's soul out of his body and waved it around like bait for a hound. What's not to love?

The Inhumans -- Medusa and Black Bolt. First time writing both, for this challenge, and it takes me back, let me tell you...but Medusa is so feisty and determined and her jealousy and craving to be wanted was just fascinating.

FFXII -- Vayne and Ashe. It's so wrong, so so very wrong, and yet, oh god, this aesexual, cerebral, godsbedamned stubborn man just made it work. Oh. Oh. I could write Vayne in this mindset for years and not regret it.

FFXII -- ...ehe. This one's a surprise.

Berserk -- Griffith and Judeau. The most levelheaded young rogue in the world has a crush. But then who wouldn't, on Griffith? First time writing Judeau, and he's such fun to get into the head of.

FFXII -- Ashe and Vossler. I could go on for ageas about these two, repression and yearning and gore and trust and the most potentially devastating clash of egoes possible in two people who want the exact smae thing. I've written tens of thousands of words on these two and show no sign of stopping, but I had yet to see this relationship portrayed from her point of view. So I did it. And it is going to be a long, terrible month waiting to post this story. It wants to be read. It wants to be read so much.

Eight days! *completely done and just waiting for July 1st now.*

Mmmm... well, one-true-orgy characters, or the ones I can pair with anyone ever are the Ouran characters. It's so great! I love any and all pairings with them.

Favorite characters of the moment... Ritsuka (Loveless), Near (Death Note) and Clow (Card Captor Sakura/CLAMP). Ritsuka is the kind of characters I tend liking the most: tall, dark and brooding. Only that not dark and the brooding is aided by kitten ears. Besides! He's twelve and he reads philosophy! He has existencial doubts being twelve and tries to read into philosophy to answer them! And did I mentionl the adorableness?

Most of my favorite characters are the Smart ones. Sarcasm is most of the times a plus. Glasses are ALWAYS a yes. But it depends on the fandom.

Oh, the characters I hate to love? CLAMP characters and Kaori Yuki characters. I know I will end up crying and sobbing and I my heart will break a thousand zillion times. It's unavoidable to love them, but it's still quite painful to do so when you know that they're up to a ride of misery and pain and suffering.

And I sort of don't-really-have OTPs or OT3 or the such. Of course, I joke around saying OTP, but it's not serious for me. Most of the times I multiship: there are veeeeeery few couples that feel 'untouchable' for me. Hyoga/Shun from Saint Seiya gets close to that feeling. Zagato/Emerald from Magic Knight Rayearth.

[identity profile] icor.livejournal.com 2007-06-23 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, let's see here... I finished exams on the 21st, after a month or so solid or not having the time or energy to write anything, and I've (more or less) recovered from celebrating their end. Which I suppose means it's time to start writing again - with the slight problem that, from tomorrow, I'm working two weeks straight / out of a home (and therefore, no laptop or internets).

But you know what? I'm determined to get as many as I can done. I have so much plot and porn I need get out of my head, onto the screen. :D

As for what I'm writing, well - Balthier and Fran are giving me as many ideas as ever, Basch is being a perv, and Tseng and Aerith are clashing amazingly well. ♥

The one that's due on the second is giving me a little trouble.

I know where it's going of course, but I'm having a little trouble actually making myself type.

...This is particularly embarrassing as the characters are right in the middle of the foreplay and if they were capable, I'm sure they'd be annoyed as hell with me for delaying the action. XD

All my fics are ready! I just gotta do the art, and one's due July 3rd. Argh!

As for what I wrote...

Dante was of course the first to speak up, attention-whore that he is, and Shu happily went along with his plans. Vergil, less happily. Now if Dante could pose properly.

The Winchester brothers were surprisingly cooperative for once! That made me happy.

Heat was a bitch who'd give 3 sentences and go sulk for hours on end.

Roland was not sure how to handle himself, but with much prodding from me and some friends, he eventually went somewhere, if only to get a drink.

Argilla and Cielo were much amused.

Gale is a whore, but Lupa loves him anyway.

And I think Serph channelled his inner Jesus for a while there.

I wanna talk about my prompts... can I? =D

17. I must confess I haven't started on this yet, but I have a reason behind it: Lack of references (they're minor characters). Sure, I could look at the screen of my TV while drawing it, but... I don't want to burn my PS2 (it's a slim one). D: What should I do?

18. This picture is coming out very cute, but oh my God, anyone can tell me why the costumes in this game are so fucking hard to draw?

27 and 31. I'm having too much fun with these. &hearts

Heehee, you are such a lively mod for such a huge comm! I just wanted to say how much I appreciate your great work supporting this bustling fandom here. <3 Much love, power to ya~

As for my pairings, I'm kinda floating around a lot between a fandom to really FOCUS on right now, yanno? A manga I'd been reading for a decade just ended, the new anime season just started, I only just got a PS2 and started a bunch of videogames... and I'm kinda like, what should I follow?! It's what makes springkink great--there are many familiar and not-so-familiar series here to choose from, they're different and inspiring, and you can play around with whatever! I only chose two prompts here, since I'm arting it and it takes a bit longer... but there were many others I was interested in as well (maybe next time). ^^

Right now, I'm into all things mythical and Japanese. So I've really been focusing on the series Tactics and Shounen Onmyouji. I have a ridiculously high interest in tengu, and have for years--Tactics seemed tailor-made to my interests. Shounen Onmyouji deals with Japanese gods and creatures too. And recently, I JUST started playing the game Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner, which takes place in the Taisho Period of Japanese history, same as Tactics! There are so many crossover ideas brewing in my head now. <3

The reason why I tend to like these series so much is that I'm pretty obsessed with the idea of mortals and immortals forming bonds and pacts and learning to work together. It's a great set-up for lots of interesting fandom explorations. And altho it lends itself easiest to some good serious themes, I'm more of a comedy artist, so it's fun to explore those areas as well.

And it's so AMAZONG to see fans of Tactics, Shounen Onmyouji, and Devil Summoner here... all in one spot! You've really gathered quite a group. <3

[identity profile] sjen.livejournal.com 2007-06-23 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
That's "amazing" not "amazong"... however, I rather like that typo and I think I shall adopt it into my new vocabulary. ^o^

I totally have the one for July 1st done! ♥

As for the rest, errrr. One line for one, a few paragraphs for another, and most of the ideas I'm having for the rest are of the sex-free sort. Eheh.

But I really have to echo [livejournal.com profile] sjen (unsurprisingly, since we've talked on it before): I have this gigantic weakness for the mortal/immortal dynamic, which you see a lot of in mythology; I love happy silly characters that are actually darker and grittier under the surface, which I think I've got a few of to work with -- but I also like the sly snarky ones who're not so secretly laughing at everything and everyone.

And also right now I'm nursing a giant crush on Heian-era Japan. XD Which means that my two big fandoms of the moment are tactics and Shounen Onmyouji, though the prompts I picked up were pretty much for anything but. XD

Plus, holding out the hope that for the next round, someone else will submit Okami prompts (so I don't have to) that I could play with, because there's yet another giant fandom crush of mine that needs more love. :D

I've signed up for a paring that I've never done before and they are surprisingly difficult. *writer's!angst* Talking One Piece's finest Zoro and Sanji here. New fandom, new obsession, new madness challenge.

As for first OTP, probably still WK Schuldig and Yohji, damn they are so like two toxic but non-explosive household chemicals which if you put them togther - go out with a bang!
And then there are Sanzo and Gojyo of Saiyuki fame - yeah, yeah I go for the bickering ones. The kill-or-kiss crowd!

There are also Aya and Yohji and Crawford and Schuldig - although the latter I prefer to read not to write, dunno why, probably putting the fun into Crawford seems too far from what I expect of the man.

The inspiration often strikes me at the most inopportune moments when there is no time and no pen/paper or computer keyboard in sight.
It's often little things that can set off a story and keep it going like a clever line in the newspaper, a random story overheard in the common room when co-workers gossip (just writing this last thing triggered a story idea, see.)- the places you can go with that little RL shit *pardon my English*.

One some days I just have a sentence stuck in my head and it won't leave me alone until I write it into a story. The muse is a harsh harem of masters.

Oh well, I stop rambling now. Where was I? Oh yeah... *writer's!angst*

Oi, my July 10 prompt became a freaking novella (@4k words), but it's done, at beta, and I'm happy with it. I'm about 800 words into my July 2 prompt, I think it will top out at around 1500. I haven't started my July 8th prompt, but I have an idea where I want it to go, I thought it may be the shortest of the three, but we'll see where the characters take it.

All in all, loving the experience immensely :-D

For me, it's still mostly Kingdom Hearts 2 stuff(still have to get fics done fo r that one).

Axel/Demyx(OTP), and Axel/Roxas/Demyx(OT3) mostly dominate for me. Beyond that: Xigbar/Luxord, Xigbar/Xaldin, Xemnas/Xaldin, Xemnas/Xigbar/Xaldin, Lexaeus/Zexion, and Marluxia/Larxene.

That's pretty much the "top fandom" for me at this time.

[identity profile] laylah.livejournal.com 2007-06-24 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
Oh man, so not ready. my July 1 piece is done, but my July 3 piece is going so slowly, and my July 4 piece isn't even started -- I'm suffering such terrible stage fright about trying to post WK fic in a community. ^^;

But happier thoughts -- characters who are close to my heart right now --

Basch and Vossler, the two knight captains in FFXII. Both of them are strongly dedicated to the knightly virtues, honor and duty and dedication, but they express that in different ways (and they complement each other visually, too) and it provides for some wonderful tension both between the two of them, and also in interactions of either (or both) of them with Ashe, the princess they've sworn to protect. ...Basch, for extra heart-wrenching powers of awesome, also has an equally hot brother from whom he is violently estranged.

I'm working on several prompts that take on various combinations of Basch and Vossler and Ashe, and they're just so much fun to work with -- between their character dynamics and the richness of language that FFXII encourages, I'm in heaven. ^_^

It could be me, or it could be the 5 am birds outside my window, but extra heart-wrenching powers of awesome sounds so quotable right now ^^

eek, eight days. I have a July 1st, and it was done in May, but now (of course) I'm not so sure. Then the 18th is coming along well, and I don't have more than a sentence or two for the rest of them.

In the last few weeks, I've been seriously into Supernatural, so my OTP of the day must be Sam/Dean, or I'll take Dean by himself. Hot, broken, loves his car and brother, where can you go wrong.

I don't have any claims for Supernatural, though, they're mostly FFXII. Vossler, the knight of hotness, loyalty, and self-denial, is by far the most fun for me, even if I'm not writing him for this comm. He's direct, and I slip into his voice easily. I'm also having lots of fun with Victor, the doctor of badtouch from Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner.

But mostly? Dean.

Ahahaha! ^__^

Mine more of less wrote themselves as the prompts jumped out at me. I normally don't have a beta, but the writing standard around here is so very awesome that I would not dare to post stuff that hadn't been looked at. SO beta-ed they have been.

My OTP Tenpou and Kenren (10K) of Saiyuki Gaiden. My OT3, Goujun + 10K, and my hero is Goujun. The White Dragon is made of pure win! So thank you to springkink for prompting me to write my first Gaiden-fic. Minekura's characters are so beautiful that I was too afraid to try. ^__^ And really I could go on about them forever. ^__^ So I won't. (I won't go into Hakkai and Gojyo but with louiselux, well I won't go there either. I cannot wait for her pieces they will be made of WIN)

Kanbei and Kyuuzou of Samurai 7. Sooo much undertow which never surfaces. *grins*

As a newbie, I hope I do not disappoint.

Also thank you so much for all your hard work, keeping your head together and all the 'rabu-rabu' *loves* . You are amazing!

(I won't go into Hakkai and Gojyo but with louiselux, well I won't go there either. I cannot wait for her pieces they will be made of WIN)

Agreed. I think most of my problem with working on my Gojyo/Hakkai story prompts is how grandly they (and I) will be MADE OF FAIL next to what louiselux comes up with. Sigh.

My favorite character to write right now is Balthier from FFXII. Sarcastic and snarky and slightly-affectedly-suave. He's so much fun, and actually fairly natural for me to write. Also I have no qualms about pairing him with anyone and everyone, pretty much. ^_^ Love. ♥

...Which is why I don't really understand why I didn't claim any prompts with him at all! ^^;; Half my prompts are FFXII, but I'm writing Cid and Vayne and one Penelo/Ashe which is what has the most words at the moment. Particularly, my first prompt is Cid/Vayne on the 2nd that I haven't started yet. >_>

My most serious OTP at the moment is L/Light (Death Note). Which I also didn't claim any of. ^^ (It is awesome though. Scary genius sociopaths trying to get each other killed while also being friends!) I did pick up Rem/Misa though, which I've always wanted to play with. One sided psychological grotesque!shinigami/human FTW?

...You know. Looking at my list, the Penelo/Ashe prompt is the only prompt that even involves characters I've ever written before. Two of them are fandoms I've never really written before...

I've got my first and third fics done. I just need to type in and edit the third fic. The second fic wanted to be re-written over halfway through, so I'm working on that now. I've not started(or even thought about) the fourth fic, as that isn't due until the 31st. ~_^ So I feel confident that I'll have some good stories for my prompters. ~____________^

My July 1st fic is done, as is one of my july 4th ones. :/ The problem is that one of my later-in-the-month fics is getting huge - like I'm gonna have to split it into multiple LJ posts huge.

ALSO speaking of currently digging, I keep getting horribly sidetracked and distracted by Pirates of the Caribbean, specifically any variation of Beckett, Mercer, Norrington, and possibly Barbossa and or Davey Jones. I couldn't tell you why, but that's what's making me get up at night and run back to the computer to type furiously.

Beckett especially, I love writing his cold distant relation to the world.

[identity profile] veleda-k.livejournal.com 2007-06-24 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm kind of running around in circles right now. I really need to get started, considering that have two fics due on the 2nd, and another the on the 3rd. There's a lot going on in my life right now.

I'm writing a lot of new characters this round, which should give me the opportunity to find new characters to love.

Himemiya Anthy from Revolutionary Girl Utena is my favorite character of all time. My OTP to end all OTPs is Anthy/Utena (or Utena/Anthy, it makes no difference). Surprisingly, I'm only writing one fic with Anthy, and it's not Utena/Anthy. But I also like Anthy/Akio, so it's all good. (Two manipulative, dangerous people using each other? Count me in.)

Anthy is the epitome of one of my very favorite character traits: people being much more than they first appear. The characters can actually be hiding something about themselves (Anthy, Hakkai), or simply much stronger than they might appear at first glance (Hisoka).

I'm also using this chance to become more familiar with Muraki, who've I've only written drabbles about. (A chance to get inside the good doctor's head. Oh joy.) I don't think that Muraki/Tsuzuki fans will like what I come up with though. My take on them is rather...dim. (It starts with the premise that Muraki is, uh, EVIL and expands from there.) I'm not sure I'd call Muraki a character I love to hate though. I mean, I do hate adoring him like I do, but only because the vast majority of his fans are so bloody stupid.

July 2, on the other hand...

*dons hat of fruit*

Currently digging: Ishida Uryuu. And I know there are more, but he's singing in my ear right now, and when he does that breathless, breathy thing with the word "quincy"... I tend to lose the parts of my mind that might recall who else I'm groovin' on.

I have four out of six done. Most of them involve Basch, in one form or another. I love him because he's so patient, loyal, and one of the last real vestiges of honor in a world where everything's gone mad. I also like analyzing his relationship with Drace and Basch; Drace because they both have a connection to Larsa, and Basch because I myself am a twin, and one of my worst nightmares is to be severed from my twin.
